The Local Offer

Telford and Wrekin Local Offer

What is the Local Offer?

The Local Offer is for:

  • Children and young people with SEN and/or a disability from birth to 25 years

  • Their parents and carers

  • Practitioners and professionals

It is law for every local authority to publish a Local Offer. It gives you information about the support the local authority expects to give to children and young people with special educational needs (SEN) and/or a disability.  It has to include information about the provision of education, health and care support.

For young people between 16-25 with special educational needs or a disability, it should also give you information about training, employment and living independently.

What is the Local Offer for?

The idea of the Local Offer is:

  • To give you information about what is available in your area (Telford and Wrekin)

  • To make it easier to find out what you need to know

  • To let you know where you can get more information and advice

This is what the SEND Code of Practice says the Local Offer should provide:

  • Clear, comprehensive, accessible and up-to-date information about the available provision and how to access it

  • Make provision more responsive to local needs and aspirations by directly involving disabled children and those with SEN and their parents, and disabled young people and those with SEN, and service providers in its development and review.  (4,2)

What sort of information does the Local Offer give?
  • The special educational, health and social care provision for children and young people with SEN or a disability.

  • How children and young people's needs are identified'

  • How children and young people's needs are assessed.

  • How provision is funded.

  • Opportunities for training and employment.

  • Support for living independently.

  • Travel to and from school, college or other settings.

  • Support to resolve disagreements between child/young person/parent and the local authority.
